Firearms license applications are accepted Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m. You must be at least 21 years of age and a permanent resident of Athens-Clarke County to apply. You must provide identification, such as a driver's license.
The fee for applicants is $15.00 to the Probate Court and $45.00 to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office for fingerprinting. All fees must be paid and the application must be processed at the time of applying. All applications must have the F.B.I. and the G.B.I. criminal background check. It takes an average of two weeks to receive the background checks from these agencies. A firearms license will not be issued until all background checks are received and reviewed by the Judge.
